In the movie Friday the 13th, Jason Vorheese is a young special needs boy; his mother is very protective of him. He attends Camp Crystal Lake only because his mother, Pamela Vorheese, got the job as camp cook. She put her trust in the counselors to watch Jason when his death quickly approached. Jason could not swim and many of the kids knew that. While playing by the lake, a group of kids pushed Jason in while the counselors were not watching and he drowned. His mother could not accept the fact that her son was gone, so she went seeking for revenge. Throughout the first movie and a few of the sequals, Mrs. Vorheese was the killer. She killed any counselor that entered the camp. Soon, Jason 'rose from his grave' and killed her. Jason took over killing whoever occupied the camp on the day he died, friday the 13th. Although this movie did not create the fear of this day, it made the concept well known.
