Friday the 13th has been a feared day that comes at least once a year. Many people think the overall legend of this day started because of a movie made in the 1980's; that thought is actually not true. Since the number twelve is considered 'complete,' it's only natrual the next number is considered bad or unlucky. Also, although Friday is the day everyone looks forward to, it is thought to be bad to travel or discover new things. Anyone who has seen the original Friday the 13th knows Jason Voorhees was at camp when the end of his life quicky approached. Jason's mother was very protective, in fact, he only went to Camp Crystal Lake because his mother got the job as camp chef. Mrs. Voorhees had put her trust in the counselors to watch her son when he drowned. Mrs. Voorhees bured her son and began to kill any counselors who entered the camp. Many sequals later, she is killed and Jason takes over 'waking up' from his grave every friday the 13th. Even though people knew what he was there to do, they would still make fun of how he looked which is the reasoning behind the hockey mask.

I chose Friday the 13th as my legend because I love horror movies but also, the story line is so well developed I could put a creative twist on it. This was not my first choice for my legend project but as I was working on my last one I kept coming up with ideas on how to put this one together. The whole movie has a creepy, open forest vibe which I knew I could work with. This movie is very violent which I completely wanted to stay away from because I didn't want my work to reflect that message but the machete is kind of a focal point through out the movie. I think this project came together well and although it is not something I would normally do, I am glad I chose Friday the 13th.
