Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón was born in Coyoacan, Mexico City, Mexico on July 6, 1907 and died July 13, 1954. Frida was a Mexican artist who painted many portraits, self portraits, and other works inspired by nature and places of Mexico. She was describes as a surrealist or magical realist painter.

At the young age Frida was disabled by polio. When she was eighteen she was also injured on a bus accident that caused her problems with her health for the rest of her life. After her accident is when she started painting her self-portraits. She also married another artist known as Diego Rivera. Frida exhibited her paintings in Mexico and Paris before her death in 1954.
