The Wendigo

My topic is the Wendigo. The Wendigo is an Algonquian folklore. The Wendigo is a cannibal monster or evil spirit that originated in the Northern Forests of the Atlantic Coast, and Great Lakes Region of the U.S. and Canada. The Wendigo has the appearance as a monster with some human characteristics. It is also seen as an evil spirit that can possess a human being and make them become monsterous. The Wendigo has many associations with cannabalism, murder, greed, and very dangerous behaviors. The legend comes from a medical term known as "Wendigo Pyschosis." The reason for this is because there are symptons that involve the craving for human flesh, and a fear of becoming a cannibal. There are also symptoms of greed, and destruction.

I chose the legend of the Wendigo because I enjoy the myth behind it. I've always found the Wendigo interesting because of the specific features that occurred with it. I have heard of the Wendigo from numerous tv shows, movies, and video games; but that's not why they were apart of my interest. I chose the Wendigo because it features attributes like strength, speed, and flexability. I also chose it because I enjoy the background behind. The Wendigo is frightening, yet it is also exhilarating.
