Johan Cruyff

I was 14 years old when i first saw Johan Cruyff play. I didn't get to see him play live since he played in the 1970s and I wouldn't be born for another 20 years. When i first saw him play I was mesmerized by his skill with the ball. He could do something with the ball on his feet that nobody in the world could do. I believe he doesn't get the recognition he deserves partly because he never won a major championship and his international career was all too short.

Cruyff became one of my favorite players even though I didn't live through his time. He was a very modest player and person. He'd let his actions on the field define him. In the Netherlands, his quotes have been published in books and his inspirational words are often used in management seminars. People say he modernized the game with his blazing speed and excellent balance. You might even argue that he was way over his time.
