I have to admit, relative positioning alone is...uh...fairly useless. But relative positioning can be be useful when used in conjunction with absolute positioning. Just place absolute positioned divs within a relative positioned div.

For example, this page has several absolute positioned divs. Absolute positioned divs get positioned on the browser window unless they are withing a relative positioned div. Example
