Career Skills Web Design

Welcome to the 2014-2020 competition (prep)!

On behalf of the Web Design program at Coalinga High School, we thank you for participating in this event prep. Please realize that you probably will not have enough time to complete the project. The judges take that into consideration when reviewing your work.

You are charged with making a promotional web site for the California Division of the US National Park Service (example).

The focus of your project will be the Sierra Nevada Mountains (example).

Sell the concept of the great outdoors while showcasing the beauty of the National Parks in California (example).

Requirements:

Create a site of four linked web pages detailing the beauty of the nearby Sierra Nevada range, particularly at Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia National Parks. Use an appropriate color scheme and build pages for an audience whose age ranges from 25-40 years old. You can gather facts about the Sierra Nevada from the Internet. Some links are provided to save time :

Use CSS and XHTML to build the site. You may embed css in the pages or use an attached style sheet.

The client has provided you a series of photos and a few images. You are limited to use only these items, or your project will be disqualified.

You are to incorporate a minimum of ten images from those provided. You are free to crop and/or consolidate images. You must use two of the .nef images provided.

Create a folder on the "Storage" drive and label it with your contestant number. Do not use your name or school information. Any naming other than the contestant number will be cause for disqualification.

Include all resource files used in building the site within this folder.

Name the first page of your site "index".

Include a title on each page. Name each page with an obvious and logical file name.

Leave the site displayed on your computer screen when finished.

If you have any concerns, please raise your hand and a proctor will assist you.

The catch:

The images are not appropriately sized for Internet presentation. You will have to adjust the file size and resolution.

The images are not in the correct format for web site inclusion. You can run a Photoshop script to set them for .jpg quality 8 if desired. You could, of course manually adjust the images to the .jpg setting.

There are several .nef files that have been (intentionally) captured with an incorrect white balance setting. You have to correct and use two of them.
