Web Page Design Syllabus

The Web Page Design 1 course is designed to introduce the elements involved in designing Web pages. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash and other Web technologies will be introduced and utilized. In addition, the use of Web authoring software such as Dreamweaver, and Fireworks will also be covered. Throughout the year, students will be required to develop Web pages, both individually and with partners.

The Web Page Design 2 course is focused on utilizing the aforementioned Web technologies. This is accomplished by creating and enhancing new versions of the Coalinga High School or district Website. Web Page Design 2 also introduces Web programming using JavaScript and PHP. In addition, database theory will be introduced using MS Access and MySQL.

General Objectives

Materials Needed

There are no textbooks for these classes. All material is learned via lecture, the Web, in-class demonstrations, hands-on activities, and projects. Taking notes is vital and required. Fortunately, you will be able to take notes online.

Class Rules

The following class rules will be enforced:

  1. Pay attention to the teacher - No talking while the teacher is talking
  2. Raise your hand for assistance - Do not shout the teacher's name
  3. Work quietly - Collaboration is encouraged, but class volume must stay low
  4. Take care of computer equipment - Do not change computer settings or delete files

Students are expected to arrive on time and follow school and class rules. Internet game playing and unauthorized web surfing is prohibited. Absolutely no food or sodas are allowed.

Since this is a project-based class, students are expected and encouraged to communicate and assist one another. However, class volume should still be kept low.

Grading Policy

Units of the course will be graded based on the following criteria:

Points are given for assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects. Grades are calculated based on points earned to total possible points.

There is generally no homework assigned in this class. All handouts and assignments are class work. In case of absences, assignments are available on my Web site. It is the student's responsibility to get make up assignments and handouts. Make up work can be completed during after school tutorials hours.
